NAIG Series: Under 19 Girls Basketball - Shaniece Angus

“I am very excited to represent our province and Nisga’a Nation at NAIG this summer”, says 19 year old Shaniece Rachel Lorrianne Angus.

Shaniece grew up in Vancouver where she has been playing basketball since grade 3.  Shaniece recently graduated high school and received a two year scholarship to play basketball south of the border in Bellingham, Washington where she played on the Northwest Indian College Basketball team.  Her team came second in the tournament (AIHEC) which is a tournament with all tribal schools in the United States.

Unable to participate in phase two of Team BC tryouts due to prior commitments playing school ball in Montana at the time, Shaniece is very honoured and thankful that Team BC understood and accepted her on the team.

Shaniece also played in her first All Native Basketball Tournament earlier this year with her home community of Gitlaxt’aamiks.

Shaniece is Ksim Laxgibuu from Wilps Axdii M’in’aajax.  Her parents are Shannon McMillan from Gitlaxt’aamiks and Arnold Angus from Gingolx.  Shaniece currently resides in Bellingham, WA for school and Vancouver, B.C.

We thank Shaniece's mother Shannon for providing us with her information and photo.

Good luck and play hard Shaniece!
