Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government Urges Calm and Respect for the Law – “Raven Clan
Outlaws” Encampment
August 29, 2023 – New Aiyansh, British Columbia – On August 25, 2023, Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government (NLG) met with Nisg̱a’a citizens to hear concerns about the current “Raven Clan Outlaws” encampment within our traditional territory, and informed Nisg̱a’a citizens that NLG is taking steps to address this matter in accordance with the law. Accordingly, NLG urged Nisg̱a’a citizens to continue conducting yourselves in a respectful and safe manner while these legal processes played out.
NLG continues to be deeply concerned with the ongoing unlawful occupation and use of
resources within our traditional territory. But these issues must only be addressed in a lawful and peaceful manner. This is why NLG is taking appropriate steps, including litigation, to protect our lands, waters and the rights set out in the Nisg̱a’a Final Agreement.
“From the 1913 Petition to the Calder litigation, the Nisg̱a’a Nation has always looked to protect our rights and interests through the proper legal channels. It must still do so, and NLG does not condone violence or intimidation of any kind” said Eva Clayton, President of the Nisg̱a’a Nation. “We remain committed to the values of our Ayuuk by which we govern ourselves, and we each acknowledge our accountability to those values, and to the Nisg̱a’a Nation.”
NLG calls on all Nisg̱a’a citizens to continue responding to these matters in an appropriate manner that is respectful of others.
May K’amligiihahlhat continue to protect our land and nation.
