Nisga’a Fish and Wildlife Tag Lottery Draw Winners, 2013  

On 15 July 2013, the Nisga’a Fish and Wildlife Department held three $250 tag lottery draws for 2012 fishwheel tag returns from Nisga’a fishers. 

Sim’oogit K’eexkw selected computer generated random numbers that were matched to the three winners and announced on VHF radio.

A total of 2,188 tag returns from 2012 recoveries were available for three $250 lottery draws with the results below:

Draw#1 (Chinook): 

• 317 tag returns available for draw;
• Chinook tag return number drawn was #22126 caught on 3 July 2012 (tagged on 10 June 2012);
• Winner:  Rueben Guno - $250.

Draw#2 (Sockeye): 

• 1,463 tag returns available for draw;
• Sockeye tag return number drawn was #92122 caught on 31 July 2012 (tagged on 29 July 2012);
• Winner:  Debbie Azak - $250.

Draw#3 (Coho/Chum): 

• 408 tag returns available for draw;
• Coho tag return number drawn was #3775 caught on 13 August 2012 (tagged on 13 August 2012).
• Winner:  Raymond Squires - $250.

Winners will be notified by the NFWD once cheques are ready to be picked up.

Special thanks to all Nisga’a fishers that return fishwheel tags each year as they are important to data collected for Nass salmon stock assessment. 

Please remember to return your tags (or report tag numbers from any fish released) from 2013 fishing for entry into next year’s tag lottery draws that will be held in July 2014.
