WSN Sitting Highlights

After introduction and debate into the House, members of Wilp Si’ayuuk-hl Nisg-a’a (WSN) voted unanimously to adopt the Provisional Budget of the Nisg-a’a Nation for Fiscal Year 2009/2010 at its duly convened quarterly sitting on March 27 and 30, 2009.  The vote by the House followed lengthy preparation by Nisg-a’a Finance personnel and detailed review by the Nisg-a’a Finance Committee, followed by the NLG Executive, both of which recommended the adoption by WSN.  The Final Budget of the Nisg-a’a Nation for the 2009/2010 fiscal year will go to WSN for final approval in October.

Other business of the March sitting included the introduction, debate and vote on the extension of the Nisg-a’a Nation Fiscal Financial Agreement (FFA) for 2009/2010; the tabling the Nisg-a’a Elections Officer’s final report and the introduction of new legislation addressing Land Title that will return to the house for second reading and a final vote in October.

The highlight of the two day sitting was the awe-inspiring Nisg-a’a language rendition of “O Canada” by the grade 5 and 6 students from Nisg-a’a Elementary School at the opening of day 2.  President Nelson Leeson thanked and acknowledged the hard work of the children and offered encouragement to the future leaders for the continued daily use and practice of the Nisg-a’a language.
