Nisga’a Language Students grad in Terrace!

Terrace, BC – Yesterday, the Terrace office for the Nisga’a Urban Local area honoured the continued achievements of its language students who graduated and completed Level III  certificate in the Nisga’a language.

Their instructor Verna Williams was once again continuing to foster the continuation and use of the Nisga’a Language through a Nisga’a Language class that has been running since the fall in 2013.

After the final class, and having a celebratory dinner, students received their graduation certificates.  Students expressed their appreciation to their teacher and to Bonnie Mercer of the Terrace Nisga’a Urban Local area office for their dedication in serving the needs of the Nisga’a citizens residing in Terrace.

One student shared that, for her, learning the Nisga’a language was like medicine, helping her to heal and to re-connect back to the Nisga’a Nation.   Another individual shared how the program seemed to be rejuvenating for their mother in her 70’s who travelled to attend these classes with Verna.

Overall, it was another great evening of celebration and accomplishment for the Nisga’a Nation.

Si’amhl Wilsim.  Continue to learn the language.
