Recruitment for the 2012-2013 National Youth Advisory Committee

National Aboriginal Policing and Crime Prevention Services (NAPCPS) is conducting their annual recruiting for Canadian youth for the 2012-2013 National Youth Advisory Committee. 

The purpose of the committee is to ensure that the youth voice is represented within the RCMP and to assist with the development of effective youth strategies and initiatives.

Fun Filled Day at Lava Lake

Five teams compete for first place at this year’s 7th annual Canoe Races co-hosted by Nisga’a Valley Health Authority and Nass Valley Tours.

The day began with overcast clouds, intermittent rain, and as the day unfolded the weather improved. The temperature in the morning was 15 degrees although cooler worked in favor for the runners and walkers whom participated in the 10km run and 4km walk. As the day progressed and the canoe races heated up, so did the weather; reaching 23 degrees.

Scheduled power outage and highway closure planned

Date: July 18, 2012

Location: Diksangiik Bridge site

Time: 11am-3pm

A planned and scheduled power outage will occur for residents of Laxgaltsap and Gingolx. At the same time the highway will be closed on Wednesday July 18, 2012 between the hours of 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the Diksangiik Bridge Site.

This is necessary in order to facilitate Hydro final relocation of hydro poles at the construction site.

The project is expected to be completed, paved, & open for use by the public as at July 27, 2012.

Open Burning Prohibition

Effectve immediately, July 13, 2012, until further notice, all open burning is prohibited within Nisga'a Lands. This measure is undertaken to limit the risk of starting forest fires.

This prohibition does not apply to areas regulated by village government burning laws.

Where village or regional bylaws are in place governing the use of open fire or smoke management; contact those authorities for more information before starting a fire.

These restrictions are published under the authority of Section 57 (3)(a)(i) of the Nisga'a Forest Act.
